Almunecar
Only one hour from Malaga and Granada, Almuñécar is the capital of the Costa Tropical in the province of Granada in Andalusia.
Village almost three thousand years old, which was a Phoenician trading post from the 8th century BC before the Romans developed it, it became Sexi Firmum Julium and its port adapted to the growing importance of the city, equipped with an aqueduct and where Roman factories developed. The small town, built on a hill and protected by its fortress, was then Arab then Christian without its landscapes changing. Only the Arab alleys of the old town, the church at the top of the hill and the modern town at its feet bear witness to the passage of time. Its beaches of volcanic sand or pebbles, its subtropical climate, mild all year round, make it an ideal vacation spot. Almuñécar offers the sea to the mountains while enjoying a preserved authenticity. Almuñécar is a city on a human scale where life is good all year round.
Its countless stalls, its stores of fresh local products (fruits, vegetables, fish, meat…), its bars, cafeterias overflowing with life, its affable population will mark you for sure. The Andalusian sweetness of life, feet in the water, that's Almuñécar.

The population proud of its roots but very open and humble, the richness of its mixed culture, the architecture, the gastronomy, the breathtaking landscapes, the climate, the sweetness of life, everything seduces in Andalusia. You will feel disoriented and quickly at home.
You will quickly adopt the rhythm of these sunny days, interrupted by a siesta and extended late into the night, and you will get used to the staggered meal times. You will observe the street show, its noisy animation, and the perpetual tumult of public places, like a flamenco melody of life.
The climate
Protected from the cold by the mountain range that runs along the coast and tempered by the hot winds from northern Africa, Almuñécar enjoys an exceptional micro-climate all year round, a subtropical climate. This subtropical climate, unique in Europe, allows the development of exuberant exotic vegetation (8000 palm trees in the city!) and the cultivation of exotic varieties such as avocados, mangoes, bananas, sugar cane, etc.
The vast majority of houses have neither heating nor air conditioning. The thermal amplitude is low, in summer as in winter; never much more than 10 degrees difference between morning and afternoon. The Costa Tropical is more than 320 days of sunshine a year.
The maximum temperature in Almuñécar averages 20°C over the year (from 14°C in January to 28°C in August). It rains about 400mm over the year… Rarely more than half a day at a time; and often less than a few hours.
The beaches
You will be spoiled for choice for beaches, it is the most important seaside resort on this coast. The most frequented are the urban beaches of gray volcanic sand. But unlike the Costa del Sol or the Costa Brava, here the beaches are not crowded to saturation. Even in very high season you will find room to fully enjoy the beaches and stay there until the last ray of sunshine, as most people do here. The beaches of Almuñécar are mainly frequented by locals and people from Granada who come to seek coolness in summer and mildness in winter.
The sea temperature is mild (above 19°C) from May to November. It peaks at around 25°C in the summer. You can therefore swim for 5 to 6 months.
